Band Aid School of Music South Austin

Our story

Walking into our South Austin location feels like stepping into the living heartbeat of Austin’s legendary live music culture — a legacy built on creativity, connection, and the joy of making music together.

Located in 78704, this neighborhood has shaped Austin into the Live Music Capital of the World for decades. For many families, it’s where their own musical journey begins — not just for their children, but for the whole family.

Some days, the school is alive and buzzing — bands rehearsing in our three stage rooms, amps humming, drums echoing with excitement. Other times, it’s quiet and peaceful, with just a few lessons unfolding behind sound-proofed doors. That contrast is intentional. Music here isn’t chaos — it breathes.

As you sit in the lobby, you’ll hear soft wafts of music drifting through the halls. A guitar line, a voice finding confidence, a beat locking in — each one a reminder that something meaningful is happening just beyond the walls. The space feels calm, creative, and welcoming, a place where parents often pause and think, “This feels right. I’m doing something meaningful for my family.”

Our South Austin school features:

  • Three fully equipped stage rooms designed for real band performance and confidence-building

  • Six sound-proofed lesson studios built for focus, growth, and creativity

  • State-of-the-art sound systems and professional gear

  • A cool, clean, safe, and inclusive rock ’n roll vibe that families trust and kids love

  • State-of-the-art recording studio where ideas turn into works of art

South Austin has been the heart of Band Aid since 2009 — a place where thousands of students and families have experienced growth, joy, pride, and accomplishment through music. Students don’t just learn notes and chords here. They transform by learning how to collaborate, express themselves, turn effort into achievement, and belong to something bigger.

Whether a student thrives in the energy of a band rehearsal or needs a quiet, supportive space to build confidence, South Austin meets them where they are — and helps them grow into who they’re becoming.

This isn’t just a music school.

It’s a creative home where families connect, confidence takes root, and a lifelong love of music is empowered — together.

Josh was born and raised in Austin and was lucky enough to form a band starting in 3rd grade. He stuck with the same bassist and drummer all the way through high school, and played several shows around Austin. They played in a Jazz band as well which helped them dial in a funky/bluesy jamming style.

Josh also began producing his own songs when he was around 12 and became very passionate about songwriting and music production. Band Aid was definitely an inspiration and huge help early on in his career, as Josh took voice lessons with our own James Mays in high school.

Josh honed his guitar playing while attending college in New Orleans and studying music business and jazz. He played with bands around the city at great venues like Tipitinas and other Nola staples. Josh really enjoys working with bands, the interaction between the instruments, and rehearsing to put on a great show. After moving back to Austin in 2019, he started sharing his passion with the next generation by teaching lessons at Band Aid. When he is not teaching lessons he is writing and producing new music.
