Band Aid Bands perform a minimum of 2 showcases and 4 performance classes every year. Most play additional shows online and at historic venues like, Stubbs, Mohawk, North Door, Hole in the Wall, ABGB, Emos, Spiderhouse Ballroom, Whip Inn, Hills Cafe, Belmont, Swan Dive, Kick-Butt Coffee, Strange Brew, Jovitas, The Back Room, One 2 One, Pecan Street Fest, UTOPiAFest, SXSW, ACL Fest and more.
Our experience shows that students learn faster and have more fun when they are preparing for a performance. They’ll learn crucial life lessons like navigating feelings of excitement and healthy stress by getting up in front of others to play. Since our focus on performance is stronger than other music schools, our students perform at a higher level as a result. We are Austin’s only National Champion Rock Band School. Many schools copy our model, but no one does it quite like Band Aid.
Fun Fact!
Fun Fact: Richard Linklater, the film maker from Austin Texas, came to watch what our founder James Mays was doing with young bands. That was part of his inspiration for making the movie “School of Rock”. Thanks to Jack Black and Richard, thousands of kids and families all over the world have been inspired by our model of creativity and performance.
A Comprehensive Curriculum
We have created safe and proven progressions that help students navigate the pressure of performing in small manageable steps, creating an experience of empowerment and pride for kids and adults alike.
Performance classes are held twice per semester where students perform for staff and other students. These classes are designed to help them learn to perform in a low-stress environment and to build a community of other artists and friends. Many of our students met their best musical friends in these classes. Parents and students agree that Performance Classes are some of their favorite learning experiences.
Public Performances are held year round for our rock bands and many advanced solo artists. …and EVERYONE gets the opportunity to tread the boards on some of Austin’s most historic stages at our Student Showcases. Past venues include: Stubbs, Mohawk, Emos, The Parish, Hole in the Wall, ABGB, Spiderhouse Ballroom, North Door, Whip Inn, Hills Cafe, The Belmont, Swan Dive, Kick-Butt Coffee, Strange Brew, Captain Quacks, Jovitas, The Back Room, One 2 One, Pecan Street Fest, UTOPiAFest, SXSW, ACL Fest, and more.

Our teachers understand that every student is an individual, with personal musical needs and goals. We make it a priority to tailor how we teach and what we teach to your individual needs.
When you enroll in the rock band program, your teacher will ask you about your favorite types of music and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. You’ll work together to develop a plan to achieve your goals. We love beginners, so even if you don’t know where to begin, we can help! -

Our Rock Band instructors have proven qualifications, training, teaching experience, and most importantly, passion for teaching. All of our staff are very experienced musicians who have clocked hundreds of hours of stage time. Being a great musician doesn’t automatically make you a great teacher. That’s why we search for those who are best qualified for mentoring our music students!
We search the Live Music Capital of the World for the top teachers who embody the high values at Band Aid School of Music. Most importantly, our instructors strive to relate their teaching to each individual student’s learning style. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the USA and Europe and have years of professional performance and teaching experience. In addition to their teaching credentials, our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly, and strive to get to know each student and their parent on a personal level. We search high and low for the BEST teachers, so you don’t have to!

There is no set answer for how long it takes to learn. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving, and they find lessons enjoyable.
-
We get it: as an adult student or a younger student with many extra curricular activities, it can be hard to find the time. Our instructors will encourage you to make time to practice. They’ll help you do that by giving you short, effective and fun exercises that you can do easily throughout the day because practice makes progress, whether it’s 5 minutes or 60. And, we’re confident that once you get started, you’ll fall in love with the guitar and never want to put it down!
-
Yes. Even if you don’t have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child’s music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.
